Our Mission:
The Parenting Plus Network has been formed to help parents, teachers and other people involved in the nurturing and educating of today's children adapt to the changing world in which we and our children live.
The world has changed in front of our eyes...and the rate of change is accelerating. Our children are digital natives while we, at best, are digital immigrants. The environment our children inhabit is vastly different from the ones we knew as kids. Even their brains are adapting to a different way of interacting with the world than ours did. As such, different approaches to many of the issues confronting parents and teachers are needed. All too often, we look in the mirror and our mother or father stares back at us. We usually tend to raise our children the same way that we were raised. We usually tend to teach children the way we were taught...and many of these methods are extremely outdated and ineffective with our new crop of digitally adapted youngsters.. There are many schools that are still run the way they were in the nineteenth century with a thin veneer of contemporary gloss glazing the surface. Few schools are obtaining optimal outcomes...in fact, there is a great deal of room for improvement in the vast majority of educational institutions.
Change has happened...and will continue to happen. We can't stop it. Society will continue to evolve...and as society evolves, so too must the way in which we raise and educate our young. Our purpose in creating the Parenting Plus Network is to assist parents and teachers to change the way in which we raise and educate our kids by presenting new, effective approaches to both tasks.
We will show you some of the positive changes that are already in place in certain classrooms around the country. We will present you with the latest research on how kids learn and thrive. We will present you with a variety of professionals who are working to improve the quality of life of our children and us. We want to be their podium.
We don't have all the answers. We certainly didn't have them all when our children were young. We are not perfect parents or teachers. We made mistakes...but we learned from them and learned to ask questions...all sorts of questions. We got lucky and brought up great kids. We will solicit your stories and tips. We will give you a forum in which you can give voice to your concerns. We can all share what we have learned and we can all continue to ask questions.
